i have virgin hair. and i’m proud of it. never been permanently styled or even temporarily coloured. it looks black mostly, but on my birth certificate it says dark brown. which does kinda make sense because when i’m under light or the sun, it looks like i have some lighter highlights, but its black.

i decided to post this because some of you have asked me what i do to my hair. my usual routine is to wash my hair once every 2 - 3 days with baby shampoo (cuz i’m a child like that) and then just air dry it and walk around with a towel for the next hour. i do not own a hair dryer, and i only just got myself a hair brush last year - which sees more dust than it does hair. and for my haircuts, i just say 4 layers.

so basically, i do nothing. and maybe thats why its texture still looks good - because i haven’t chemicalized it. of course, i’ve considered dying my hair a lighter shade, and getting some actual highlights, but when i asked my hair stylist who does my cuts, she practically assaulted me with her hair brush when i suggested it. virgin hair is apparently really rare now, so she wants me to keep it that way. as much as i want a mane change, i think the upkeep and possible drawbacks are a dealbreaker for me.

i mean, once its coloured, no more baby shampoo. i gotta get those ‘colour lock in’ ones. then, my hair is gonna get dry. which means conditioners and masks and serums. which also means losing texture - which leads to me having to actually spend time doing my hair. GG.

but to all you girls out there who experiment and style, you really have my admiration. because i’m tired just thinking about all that work. one day, i might just give in, but even my friends who’ve had dye jobs complain that their hair just isn’t the same as before - despite all the upkeep.

food for thought: i kinda find it ironic, that initially everyone wanted to dye their hair to be different, but now its like EVERYONE has a dye job, so the ones who don’t have it end up in that position.

and also, its funny how some asians dye their hair lighter and blonde - while some caucasians dye their hair darker and darker. it’s like you always want what you can’t have.

just like skin tone! in the west, people risk cancer to get tan, cuz pale skin is apparently not cool, and in asia, whitening products fly off the shelves because being ‘white’ and ‘fair’ is the bees-knees.
